Deleting your Netflix account
It is our standard practice to automatically delete Netflix accounts 24 months after the membership has been canceled. To request the earlier deletion of your canceled Netflix account, please follow the steps according to the device you’re using.
By deleting your account, you will permanently lose access to your account activity, preferences and more.
If you think you may want to use your account in the future, you can cancel it instead. Canceling your membership means that if you come back to Netflix in the next 24 months to restart your membership, your profiles, viewing preferences and more will be waiting for you.
A few things to note if you decide to delete your Netflix account:
If your membership is active, it will be canceled at the end of the current billing period and then the account will be permanently deleted.
You can undo your deletion request from the Account page any time before the end of your current billing period.
Once your account is permanently deleted, you’ll need to sign up for a new account to use Netflix again.
If you cancel your Netflix subscription (but do not request deletion of your Netflix account as described above), then information such as your viewing activity, recommendations, and ratings, are retained in connection with your account for a period of time to facilitate re-subscribing. If you re-subscribe, you will have continued access to and use of this information, such as your personalized recommendations and “continue watching” information. Currently this time period is 24 months after the cancellation of your subscription.
After 24 months after cancellation of your subscription, your Netflix account will be deleted. We take reasonable measures to delete or de-identify personal information in a secure manner when it is no longer required. If you have communicated with us via privacy@netflix.com, we will retain this correspondence for 6 years.
We may retain personal information longer as required or permitted by applicable laws and regulations, including to honor your choices, for our billing or records purposes, and as otherwise necessary to fulfill the purposes described in the Netflix Privacy Statement.
