Lindsay Lohan Dusts Off Her Yuletide Cheer in ‘Falling for Christmas’

The holiday rom-com hits Netflix Nov. 10.

“Extravagant. Temperamental. Glamorous.” That’s how Lindsay Lohan describes Sierra Belmont, the character she plays in new holiday rom-com Falling for Christmas

That’s right. Lohan, star of Confessions of a Teenage Drama Queen and Mean Girls, returns to screens this holiday season, and will once again coordinate her furry headgear to “Jingle Bell Rock."

Falling for Christmas cast and plot

Lohan plays hotel heiress Sierra Belmont, whose new engagement goes off the rails when she gets into a skiing accident that leaves her with total amnesia. Luckily, Sierra finds herself in the care of a blue-collar widower (Chord Overstreet) and his precocious daughter (Olivia Perez) in the days leading up to Christmas. (To read more about the cast, check out this guide.) But it’s not all rest and relaxation. As you can see from the trailer, Sierra finds herself on a bit of a learning curve.

“Christmas is a time when family comes together,” Lohan tells Tudum. “It’s just such a loving holiday.”

Directed by Janeen Damian, Falling for Christmas is Lohan’s first project with Netflix. Damian and Lohan will reunite once more for another romantic comedy — this time with a supernatural twist. Set in Ireland, Irish Wish, directed by Damian and written by Kirsten Hansen, will star Lohan as a bridesmaid who makes a magic wish that turns her into the bride, only to realize that may not be what she really wants.

According to Lohan, the opportunity to return to the genre that launched her career was part of the draw of a project like Falling for Christmas. “It’s such a refreshing, heartwarming romantic comedy, and I miss doing those kinds of movies,” she says.

Still, she did learn some new skills along the way. “All the stunt scenes were really fun for me because I haven’t gotten to do that much in a lot of my films,” she says, laughing. “[Like] flying off the hill, attempting to ski well and not doing it.”

So that’s a no on hitting the slopes IRL? “I love the idea of skiing,” Lohan explains, “[but] I’m not very good at it.” And that’s why God created après-ski.

Where was Falling for Christmas filmed?

Falling for Christmas takes place at the fictional Belmont Summit Resort and was filmed in the real-life location of Salt Lake City, Utah.
