Allez Cuisine! The ‘Iron Chef’ Trailer Is Coming in Hot

The knives are out in Kitchen Stadium.

    June 1, 2022

Long before the chaotic hijinks of Is It Cake? or the soft comfort of The Great British Baking Show, one cooking competition ruled them all: Iron Chef. The fiery food battle kicked off in Japan in 1993 and ran in various forms (and international spin-offs) until 2018. And, after a few dormant years, the fires of Kitchen Stadium have been stoked once more by Netflix’s upcoming reboot, Iron Chef: Quest for an Iron Legend, premiering Wednesday, June 15. The new Iron Chef trailer gives viewers their first glimpse into the revived series. The knives are out — and sharper than ever.

“Let us prepare for the biggest battle this kitchen has ever seen,” says the exuberant Iron Chef chairman (Mark Dacascos) with dramatic flair. He isn’t lying. Co-hosts Alton Brown (returning from the previous Iron Chef America regime) and Top Chef winner Kristen Kish spend the trailer explaining why Iron Chef: Quest for an Iron Legend has its shiny, longer new name.

While most of the new Iron Chef follows in the footsteps of its predecessor — with challengers duking it out with one of five Iron Chefs — the culmination of the show adds a whole new flavor to the competition’s palette. In the grand finale, the best challenger will face off against all the celebrity Iron Chefs: Ming Tsai, Curtis Stone, Dominique Crenn, Marcus Samuelsson and Gabriela Cámara. Ouch. Only then will someone have the chance to be crowned Iron Legend.

The sneak peek confirms the Iron Chef conflict will be fierce, as competitors trash-talk and chop with equal abandon, all while making delectable dishes. There are humongous crabs, live sturgeon and enough fowl on display for eight seasons of Game of Thrones banquets. Guest hosts like Danny Trejo and OG Iron Chef Masaharu Morimoto all look delighted to see the food fight up close and personal. Get a snack and a drool bib — you’re going to need it.
