KPop Demon Hunters Stays ‘Golden’ at the Grammys

The animated sensation keeps going “up, up, up” with a win on music’s biggest night.

KPop Demon Hunters, Netflix’s most popular film of all time, has now added one of music’s top honors to its already stacked list of accolades. On Feb. 1 at the 68th Grammy Awards, the film’s breakout hit, “Golden,” won Best Song Written for Visual Media.

The film’s entire soundtrack, which has scored more than 10 billion global streams to date, is the first to have four simultaneous Top 10 songs on the Billboard Hot 100.

The Grammy honor pushes the spotlight from the movie’s animated girl group, HUNTR/X, to the real artists behind the vocals. The titular demon-hunting band is brought to life by EJAE, who co-wrote “Golden” with Mark Sonnenblick and lends her singing voice to Rumi. Audrey Nuna sings as Mira and Rei Ami as Zoey.

The Grammy win for “Golden” mirrors its place at the heart of KPop Demon Hunters’s story. What starts as an aspirational banger for the trio, who hope to seal their universe off from supernatural beings, grows more vulnerable by its bridge. It morphs into an intimate confession from a heroine who isn’t sure she deserves the spotlight she’s chasing.

Zoey, Rumi, and Mira of KPop Demon Hunter's HUNTR/X stand on a golden stage accepting their Oscar's statuette.

That turn is crucial, according to executive music producer Ian Eisendrath: “In a traditional film musical structure, this is the ‘I want’ song.”

“Suddenly the song goes from being this inspirational pop to totally sotto voce — a little bit darker,” Eisendrath tells Tudum. “She’s just looking at herself and realizing how completely isolated she is. She’s frightened, but then she girds herself back up. Where ‘Golden’ is the ‘I want’ song for all three girls, this bridge is a quick opportunity to check in on what Rumi wants, which is to seal the Honmoon so the scars go away and all the demon in her is gone.”

The Grammy Award for “Golden” comes on the heels of wins for Best Song at both the 2026 Golden Globes and Critics Choice Awards. KPop Demon Hunters also won the 2026 Critics Choice Award for Best Animated Feature and the Golden Globe Award for Best Motion Picture — Animated.

Next up? The 98th Academy Awards, where the film has two Oscar nominations for Best Animated Feature and Best Original Song for “Golden.”
