Cyclist Moriah Wilson seemed to have it all: an innate work ethic and explosive talent for professional gravel racing, a sport that she was deeply passionate about; a fiercely loving family who supported her every move; profound friendships with those who shared her love of cycling; and an exciting new relationship with a fellow competitor. But just as she seemed to be reaching her peak, Moriah’s life was cut short by a grisly murder.

In the new documentary The Truth and Tragedy of Moriah Wilson, the highly publicized search for Moriah’s killer and the trial that followed are set against emotional interviews with her family, friends, and colleagues. Directed by Emmy Award–winner Marina Zenovich (I’m Chevy Chase and You’re Not) and produced by Academy Award–winner Evan Hayes (Free Solo), the documentary tells the story of loss, love, and the ways that grief can reshape our lives, while also revealing moments of resilience and transformation — even in the darkest of times.

“Every so often when making a documentary you become inspired beyond words, and this experience was that for me,” Zenovich told Netflix. “I’m so honored to be able to show the love, strength, and vulnerability that Moriah Wilson’s family and friends shared with us in telling this tragic story. They took their unimaginable grief and turned it into something deeply moving and inspiring.”

The Truth and Tragedy of Moriah Wilson will come to Netflix April 3.
