Author Karin Slaughter’s tense, twisty thrillers ask readers two essential questions: How well do we really know the people closest to us, and do we know what they’re capable of doing? In Pieces of Her, the upcoming TV adaptation of Slaughter’s 2018 best-seller, the answer could tear a mother and daughter apart — or bring them closer together.

Aimless, unambitious Andy (Bella Heathcote) returns to her sleepy small town with one goal in mind: to look after her mom, Laura (Toni Collette), as she undergoes chemotherapy and then goes into remission. But she’s faced with the threat of a lifetime when a casual mother-daughter mall outing turns deadly: an active shooter aims his gun at Andy, and in response, Laura expertly tackles, disarms and kills him without hesitation or remorse. Footage of the attack goes viral, and Andy is forced to confront a terrifying, confounding chain of events that seems to prove her sweet, peaceful mother has a less-than-sweet, less-than-peaceful past.

Slaughter serves as an executive producer on the series; Jessica Barden, Joe Dempsie, Jacob Scipio, Calum Worthy, Aaron Jeffery, Omari Hardwick, Gil Birmingham and David Wenham co-star alongside Heathcote and Collette. You can catch some of the stars in the eerie first-look photos below and stream the full series on March 4. But proceed with caution: Like any good page-turner, this show will have you second-guessing everything.
