What happens in The Accident?

When well-to-do couple Daniela (Talancón) and Emiliano (Martínez) throw a birthday party for their young boy, Rodrigo, everything seems to be going smoothly. Rodrigo and his friends are playing, their parents are getting to know one another a bit better (whether they want to is another story), and the weather is just about perfect. That is, until the wind unexpectedly picks up, leading to a horrific accident that kills three children. As they deal with the aftermath, the parents throw blame around at themselves and others: Emiliano was on a business call when it happened — was he negligent? His family’s housekeeper, Moncho (Palacios), was sneaking alcohol during the party — could he have caused this? As the incident rocks the community, everyone grapples with who’s really at fault.

How does The Accident end?

So who’s really the culprit in the bouncy house disaster that killed Daniela and Emiliano’s son, Rodrigo (Rodrigo); Lupita and Charro’s son, Gabriel (Cardoza); and Brenda’s son, Mateo (Guevara)? And will Charro (Guerra) ever get enough vengeance to quell his rage? To find out the fates of Emiliano, Charro, Moncho, and more, read on for answers to your most burning questions about the series finale.

Do bouncy houses actually fly away in real life?

Yes. As unbelievable as it may seem, bouncy houses can and very much have flown away before, much to the horror of the parents involved. The kids party staple is apt to lift off the ground with as little as 15 miles-per-hour winds. According to the American Meteorological Society, wind-related bouncy house accidents have caused at least 28 deaths and 479 injuries between 2000 and 2021.

Do Daniela and Emiliano break up?

Yes. After finding out Emiliano had been keeping his complicity in the accident a secret, and that he bought Moncho’s silence, she tells him it’s over. But all is not lost: The couple reconcile in the end during Daniela’s visit to Emiliano in prison.

Do Javier and Brenda break up?

While grieving her son, Mateo, Brenda (Acosta) cheats on her husband, Javier (Zamora), with bartender and Mateo’s biological father, Mauricio (Gamba). But after Brenda gets therapy, Javier and Brenda end up back together. Javier even plans to get a reverse vasectomy so they can have a child after losing Mateo.

Who killed David?

David (Hayser), one of Emiliano’s associates, has an affair with Charro’s wife, Lupita (Ibarra). When Charro finds out, he shoots David and buries his body at the grounds of the future amusement park.

Who killed Moncho?

Before Emiliano confesses that the deaths were due to his negligence, both Charro and Lupita blame the housekeeper, Moncho, for their son Gabriel’s death and are hellbent on revenge. The first to target Moncho is Charro, who beats him up then sets his house on fire in an attempt to kill his children. This leads to Moncho’s wrongful arrest. After he’s thrown in prison, Charro hires someone to kill him on the inside. Moncho survives … for a little while longer, until Lupita hires a hitman named Eulogio (Soberanes), aka Barroso, to deal the final blow — via poison. Luckily for his now-widow, Yolanda (Lozano), Emiliano helps her and her children get documentation to move to the US. Eulogio, on the other hand, doesn’t fare as well: Lupita poisons him with an apple and kills him.

What happens to the amusement park business deal?

Emiliano, Javier, and David’s plans to build a lucrative amusement park fall through after the accident. While the project is initially clouded by a few things — Emiliano’s involvement in the bouncy house incident, Charro successfully lobbying to get Emiliano kicked out of the business deal, and Carla’s exposé on the accident — the nail in the coffin is the discovery of archaeological artifacts at the building site. Since it’s illegal to build on dig sites in this area of Mexico, the project is halted indefinitely.

Who’s actually at fault for the accident?

While the wind is surely more guilty than any one person, ultimately it’s Emiliano who’s to blame. He took a business call instead of fully securing the bouncy house to the ground — and that’s what led to it blowing away when the high winds came through.

Was Emiliano found guilty?

Yes. After the case went to trial, Emiliano was sentenced to two years in prison for the involuntary manslaughter of Rodrigo, Gabriel, and Mateo, without the possibility of bail.

What happens to Charro?

Charro ends up in prison, too, after Lupita frames him for killing Moncho. It’s not that much of a stretch, given Charro’s previous attempts to kill Moncho. He’s also guilty of killing David, but he’s taking that secret to the grave. Through bribery, Charro is held at the same prison as Emiliano. When they first see each other, Charro lets his ex-friend know that they’re not through yet — he still wants his revenge.
