Watch the Trailer for Hitchcockian Thriller ‘Windfall’

Starring Lily Collins, Jesse Plemons and Jason Segel.

    Feb. 15, 2022

Not all thrillers need to be dark and ominous: That’s the case for Windfall, the new Hitchcockian thriller premiering on Netflix March 18. The film, directed by Charlie McDowell (The One I Love), follows a young couple who arrives at their sunny California vacation home only to find that it's being robbed.

The well-off pair, played by Emily in Paris herself, Lily Collins, and newly minted Oscar nominee Jesse Plemons, soon find themselves in a hostage situation with the robber, played by Jason Segel. This is not the first collaboration between McDowell and his two leading men — the actors also starred as brothers in McDowell’s sci-fi romance The Discovery. (Incidentally, it’s not McDowell’s first collaboration with Collins, either — the couple married in 2021).

The idyllic Spanish-style estate features acres of fruit trees, a selection of impressive modern art, a cobblestone patio leading to a perfectly placed pool — and quite a bit of cash, which Segel’s character is about to make off with when the occupants surprise him mid-theft. Instead of fleeing the scene, Segel holds the couple hostage while waiting for a handsome ransom. Naturally, drama ensues during the overnight ordeal, especially as Collins and Plemons’ characters decide to take matters into their own hands.

Windfall was written by Justin Lader and Andrew Kevin Walker, based on a story by Lader, Walker, Segel and McDowell. Check out the first trailer for the film below and tune in when it drops March 18 on Netflix.
