Best friends Tully (Katherine Heigl) and Kate (Sarah Chalke) ended the first season of Firefly Lane with their 30-year friendship seemingly severed. Season 2 picks up by heading to the past, when the two were teenagers in 1975 and newly separated against their will. Can’t wait to see what happens? You can watch the first five minutes of the premiere episode here.
Creator Maggie Friedman tells Tudum that the episode begins with young Kate (Roan Curtis) and Tully (Ali Skovbye) writing letters to each other after Tully had to move in with her grandmother in Seattle. Despite the distance, they still inspire each other: Kate channels Tully’s confidence with boys, and Tully learns to embroider (and that she can drop the bravado once in a while).

The opening minutes show us “what each of their journeys are going to be this season, Kate in terms of trying to find herself in high school and Tully wanting to know where she comes from,” teases Friedman.
As we see in the trailer, the 2004 storyline will see Tully restarting her career from scratch after her talk show ends, while Kate and ex-husband Johnny (Ben Lawson) weather his accident in Iraq. The first five minutes also offer “a little glimpse of where we left off at the end of last season, and we’ll get a little tease about their fight and their rift,” says Friedman.
