Shakespeare put it best when he wrote, “The course of true love never did run smooth.” But that doesn’t mean it isn’t a love worth fighting for, as both Amy (Zoe Saldaña) and Lino (Eugenio Mastrandrea) can attest in the upcoming limited series From Scratch.

Inspired by From Scratch: A Memoir of Love, Sicily, and Finding Home, the New York Times best-selling memoir by Tembi Locke, the trailer introduces us to American art student Amahle “Amy” Wheeler (Saldaña) as she travels to Florence, Italy, to experience art and “try things I may never get to again in my life.” But some of those new experiences she never planned for, including bumping into budding Sicilian chef, Lino (Mastrandrea), on the city’s cobblestone streets, sparking a meet cute that turns into “a love story for the ages.” Locke is also an executive producer on the series.

Boasting “I express myself through food,” Lino cooks delectable dishes for Amy and her friends at his restaurant in between taking her on Vespa rides to flea markets. Their romance turns serious when he tells her, “I think we can be something great,” and they jet to Los Angeles to start a new life together.

But finding home in a “city with no center” — let alone in a new country — isn’t easy for Lino, as he struggles with not being able to make a living by cooking for other people, which is his passion. Amy reminds him that “in a city with no center, I am your center” as they dance the dawn away in a parking lot.

Take a bite out of the trailer above before From Scratch premieres on Netflix Oct. 21.
