Nobody hates Christmas more than Ebenezer Scrooge, a bitter and greedy moneylender who’s got about as much patience for holiday cheer as he does an overdue debt. But on Christmas Eve, he’s taken on an extraordinary journey through time that brings him face-to-face with his flaws and presents him with an opportunity to choose a different path.

Plot

It’s Christmas Eve and moneylender Ebenezer Scrooge (Evans) shows his distaste for the holiday season by penalizing a toy shop owner for being late on a debt payment, declining his nephew’s invitation to Christmas dinner and docking his assistant’s pay for taking off Christmas Day.

That evening, he receives a frightening visit from the ghost of his former mentor Jacob Marley (Pryce), who warns him of the punishment he will face in the afterlife if he doesn’t change his mean-spirited ways. Marley’s ghost also tells Scrooge to expect three more visits from three powerful spirits — the Ghosts of Christmas Past, Present and Future.

The first visit reminds Scrooge of the painful experiences that shaped him, while the second shows how his actions hurt others. The last stop is a peek into the grim future that awaits him. In the end, he must decide his own fate.

Setting

Scrooge: A Christmas Carol takes place in Victorian-era London.
