The trailer for the documentary series Sins of Our Mother begins with a tense phone call between a mother and her son, who believes she has done something terrible. Her name is Lori Vallow, and she stands accused of killing her two young children.

Directed by Skye Borgman (Abducted in Plain SightGirl in the Picture), Sins of Our Mother examines how Vallow spiraled downward into religious fanaticism and paranoia to find herself and her fifth husband, Chad Daybell, standing trial for murder. This three-part series presents firsthand accounts from the people closest to both the victims and the alleged perpetrators as they seek to learn the truth behind this tragedy.

What happens in Sins of Our Mother?

This series presents various points of view from the people who know Vallow and Daybell and experienced the events leading up to the deaths of their family members. The episodes detail Vallow’s seemingly stable upbringing and a timeline of her adult years during which she was married five times, had two children and adopted a third.

Raised a Mormon, Vallow’s beliefs became increasingly fringe over time. In 2018, she met Daybell, the leader of a radical Mormon sect that was preparing for the end times. Vallow believed she was able to communicate with angels and that the end of the world would take place in July 2020. The series follows the details and aftermath of Vallow and Daybell’s alleged crimes.

Where is Lori Vallow now?

Vallow and Daybell plead not guilty to charges including murder, conspiracy and grand theft. On May 12, 2023 Vallow was found guilty on all charges. She faces life in prison when sentenced. On April 23, 2025, Vallow was found guilty by an Arizona jury of conspiring to murder her estranged husband, Charles Vallow, in 2019. She is scheduled to go on trial again in early June on a charge of conspiring to murder Brandon Boudreaux (the ex-husband of Vallow’s niece), who survived the attempted killing.
