Interviews with talent were captured in May 2023.

Phoebe Dynevor and Alden Ehrenreich are an ambitious power couple climbing the corporate ladder in Fair Play. The relationship thriller marks a departure for both actors: Dynevor became a household name for her role as debutante Daphne Bridgerton in the Shonda Rhimes–produced Bridgerton, while Ehrenreich is fresh off his scene-stealing performance as a Senate aide in the summer blockbuster Oppenheimer

Chloe Domont and Cast Take Us Behind the Scenes of ‘Fair Play’

Chloe Domont’s directorial debut centers around newly engaged financial analysts Emily (Dynevor) and Luke (Ehrenreich), who’ve to keep their relationship a secret from their mutual employer, cutthroat hedge fund One Crest Capital. But when Emily gets an unexpected promotion over Luke, power games abound between the young couple, making it harder to maintain their professional façade in the office and pushing their relationship to the edge. What follows is a complex look at deeply rooted beliefs about gender dynamics in the workplace, but also in the most intimate relationships.

“I think [Phoebe and Alden are] two incredibly strong, versatile actors that can do anything,” Domont told Netflix earlier this year. “But also, what excited me about
them was that they had never done anything like this before, and I always love to cast against type.” She added, “They’re just two of the most committed actors I’ve ever worked with.”

Fair Play opens in select theaters on Sept. 29 and streams globally on Netflix on Oct. 6. In the meantime, get to know the cast competing for the firm’s biggest investments.

as Emily Meyers
About the Character

Emily Meyers is an ambitious financial analyst at the cutthroat hedge fund, One Crest Capital. Smart and driven, Emily excels among her mostly male colleagues, including her fiancé Luke, who becomes jealous when she lands a promotion to become a portfolio manager. Can she have it all, or will she be forced to choose between the love of her life and her professional success?

“Watching Emily navigate her colleagues in the workplace and the way that they speak to her, and also try and protect her partner’s ego and suppress her strengths to avoid the rage of an insecure man — it’s exhausting to watch, in a way — but necessary,” Dynevor told Netflix in May. “I really loved Emily’s ambition and her drive and how she is so desperately trying to have everything, the brilliant job and the happy relationship.”

About the Character

Luke Edmunds is a financial analyst at One Crest Capital and Emily’s fiancé. When Emily edges him out for a promotion, Luke begins to question whether she deserved to move ahead before him.

“Obviously, my character is the villain of the film in many respects, but it’s a very complicated version of that,” Ehrenreich told Netflix in May. “The guys at the hedge fund are really different from Luke in the sense that Luke is really aspiring to be a good person. He’s attracted and drawn to Emily’s ambition and power, and yet there’s a line that he’s unable to deal with.”
