Meet a New Generation of Dumbasses in ‘That ’90s Show’ Trailer

Red and Kitty are back, and so are Red’s words of wisdom.

    Dec. 22, 2022

Hello Wisconsin!

Head back to Point Place with the trailer for That ’90s Show, which introduces a new generation of kids hangin’ out in the Forman family basement. This time it’s ’90s teen Leia Forman (Callie Haverda) at the center of the series, which follows her as she spends the summer with her grandparents Red and Kitty (Kurtwood Smith and Debra Jo Rupp, reprising their iconic That ’70s Show roles).

Like her parents Donna and Eric two decades before, Callie will spend her summer making new friends in Point Place — including her Riot Grrrl neighbor Gwen (Ashley Aufderheide), devoted and maybe a little dim jock Nate (Maxwell Acee Donovan), sarcastic Ozzie (Reyn Doi), supersmart Nikki (Sam Morelos) and charming Jay (Mace Coronel), whose parents you might also recognize. Did we mention his last name is Kelso? That’s right — he’s the son of Kelso and Jackie.

Two people standing together indoors, one with an arm around the other. The environment has decorative bubble shapes hanging from the ceiling and soft lighting, creating a whimsical and cozy atmosphere.

Reprising their roles are Topher Grace, Mila Kunis, Ashton Kutcher, Laura Prepon and Wilmer Valderrama, who will all appear as special guests passing the torch to the new young cast.

“When we were searching for our ’90s kids, it was very important that our actors were all real teenagers,” showrunner, co-creator and executive producer Gregg Mettler tells Tudum. “Teenagers have a very specific energy that can’t be replicated. They’re not fully formed, but they think they are, and watching them try to figure out life while their brains are soaking in hormones is a wonderful recipe for comedy.”

Plus, adds Mettler, “It was also fun watching them go through withdrawal because we wouldn’t let them have their cell phones on set. Welcome to 1995.”

The trailer also revisits another of That ’70s Show’s trademarks: words of wisdom from the gruff Red. Says co-creator and executive producer Terry Turner, “One of the best reasons to tune in is to watch Red’s reaction to a new generation of dumbasses.”

That ’90s Show premieres Jan. 19, 2023.
