    Adolescence Grips Viewers for Second Week at No. 1

    Plus, The Residence debuts and The Electric State’s Top 10 reign continues.

The chilling crime story of Adolescence continued to draw eyes in its second week of release. The limited series, about a teenage boy accused of murder, topped the English TV series list this week with 42 million views. Since launch, it has amassed 66.3 million views, making it the most-watched limited series and most-watched UK title ever through its first two weeks. The drama has been hailed as “a rich work of social critique” by The New York Times, which notes its tense storytelling, with each episode unfolding in one continuous take.

Checking in at No. 2 on the English TV list was The Residence, the latest series from Shondaland; the screwball whodunit racked up 6.4 million views. Someone is dead in the White House, and it’s up to Uzo Aduba — and sleuths watching at home — to find out who committed the crime. 

Elsewhere, The Electric State maintained its hold on the No. 1 slot on the English films list, with 22.5 million views. The sci-fi adventure is Millie Bobby Brown’s third No. 1 Netflix film debut, following her hits Enola Holmes 2 and Damsel — along with, of course, her starring role in the juggernaut Stranger Things. Pulse-pounding documentary The Twister: Caught in the Storm debuted at No. 2, with 17 million views. This week also saw Back in Action, starring Jamie Foxx and Cameron Diaz, climb another spot to No. 7 on the all-time Most Popular Films list. 

In non-English films and TV, Korea had a big week. Revelationsthe new crime thriller from director Yeon Sang-ho (Hellbound) and executive producer Alfonso Cuarón (Roma), claimed the No. 1 spot, with 5.7 million views. And in non-English TV, Korea’s When Life Gives You Tangerines rose to No. 1 with 5.5 million views. 

Led by Kate Hudson (as the surprise new president of a pro basketball team), the sports comedy Running Point continued its championship run, landing at No. 3 on the English TV chart with 3.5 million views. Animated series Wolf King hit No. 6 with 2.9 million views, and Season 1 of the new Temptation Island arrived at a balmy No. 7 with 2.7 million views. Bert Kreischer’s new stand-up special Bert Kreischer: Lucky also cracked the Top 10 at No. 9, with 2.6 million views.

Meanwhile, on the non-English films list, Finland’s Little Siberia hit No. 4, with 2.7 million views. In non-English TV, the buried secrets of Germany’s Woman of the Dead came in at No. 3 with 2 million views; India’s Khakee: The Bengal Chapter arrived at No. 7 with 1.6 million views; and South Africa’s Go! was off to the races at No. 8 with 1.5 million views.

Finally, on the English films list, Plankton: The Movie, from Nickelodeon Animation, finished its third week at No. 6 with 5.5 million views. That’s a lot of Krabby Patties!
